CANADA
Beer in Canada was introduced by European settlers in the seventeenth century, and a number of commercial brewers thrived until Prohibition in Canada. Though short-lived, very few brewers survived, and it was only in the late twentieth century that new breweries opened up. The Canadian Beer industry now plays an important role in Canadian identity.

CHINA
Beer in China has become increasingly popular in the last century. Chinese beer has also seen a rise in popularity internationally in the last few decades. While most Chinese beers are pale lagers, other styles are occasionally found.

CZECH REPUBLIC
Beer in the Czech Republic has a long and storied history. The most famous Czech beer brand (and the most exported one) is Pilsner Urquell, which was the world's first pilsner and pale lager beer.

ENGLAND
English beer has a long history and traditions that are distinct from most other beer brewing countries. Beer was the first alcoholic drink to be produced in England, and has been brewed continuously since prehistoric times. England is known for its top fermented cask beer (also called real ale) which finishes maturing in the cellar of the pub rather than at the brewery and is served with only natural carbonation.

FRANCE
Most beer sold in France is mass-produced, with major breweries having control of over 90% of the market and pilsner lagers predominating. In recent years, France has also seen a proliferation of microbreweries.

GERMANY
Beer is a major part of German culture. For many years German beer was brewed in adherence to the Reinheitsgebot order or law which only permitted water, hops and malt as beer ingredients. Since 1993, the production of beer has been governed by the Provisional German Beer Law which allows a greater range of ingredients(only in top-fermenting beers) and additives, that have to be completely, or at least as much as possible, removed from the final product.

HOLLAND
Beer in the Netherlands is known for the pale lagers. While pale lager makes up the majority of beer production and consumption in the Netherlands, most Dutch brewers also brew specials.

ITALY
Italy has the lowest consumption of beer in Europe, and is considered to be part of the wine belt of Europe. Nevertheless, beer, particularly mass-produced pale lagers, are common in the country. It is traditionally considered to be an ideal accompaniment to pizza.

JAMAICA
Brewed by the Desnoes and Gedes Company (D&G). Red Stripe was first brewed in 1928 as an ale. In 1938 D&G changed the recipe of Red Stripe to make it a lager, this same recipe is in use today.

JAPAN
Beer in Japan had its start in the 17th century during the Edo Period when the Dutch opened a beer hall for sailors working the trade route between Japan and the Dutch Empire. Japanese-style commercial brewing has been exported to much of southeast Asia and factories are spread throughout the world.

MEXICO
Mexican beer is distinctive for its lager-like properties, being generally light-bodied with a mild taste. It is common to serve light Mexican beers in North America and Europe with a wedge of lime on the bottle and/or squeezed down the neck.

NORWAY
Beer in Norway has a long history, going back at least 1000 years. Until around 200 years ago no farm was complete without a brewhouse. From the early 20th century brewing was industrialized and home brewing outlawed. Since then, significant consolidation in the brewing sector has reduced the number of major breweries to just a handful.

SCOTLAND
Beer has been produced in Scotland for approximately 5,000 years. The Celtic tradition of using bittering herbs remained in Scotland longer than the rest of Europe. Despite a widespread belief that beers in Scotland used fewer hops than in England, all the available evidence shows that the Scots imported hops from around the world and used them extensively.

USA
Beer in the United States is manufactured by more than 1,700 breweries, which range in size from industry giants to brew pubs and microbreweries. The best selling style of beer made in the US is pale lager, which is made by most large-scale brewers. Other beer styles indigenous to the United States include California common beer or "steam beer", amber ale, blonde ale and cream ale. Adapted styles with distinct American variations include pale ale, India Pale Ale, red ale, brown ale, stout, and barleywine.
